Dealing with weeds seems like a never ending struggle. Then there is the struggle of choosing a weed killer to help maintain them throughout the year. Pulling weeds sounds so therapeutic to some people but the rest of us out here that don’t find it therapeutic seek out weed killers to help get the job done for us. But, then there is the worry of toxic pesticides in your yard. If you have pets, this is usually a huge worry. The decision between having a nice looking yard or keeping your pets safe can be a struggle. I feel like the keeping our pets safe always wins this battle. That is why we came up with a Homemade Weed Killer Safe for Pets!
So, we were tired of having to make the decision and let the weeds just do what they want to keep our pets safe in the yard. We have a 75lb+ dog and 20lb+ cat that both love lounging in the backyard. The answer we needed for so long was finally answered. We started making our own all natural weed killer. Little did we know until we did some research we already had all the ingredients we needed in our house to make it. The supplies needed for this are very minimal. A pump sprayer may be the one thing you don’t have in your home currently. They are affordable and here are a couple different ones from Amazon: 1 Gallon Pump Sprayer and Walmart: 1 Gallon Pump Sprayer. These are the best prices I could find for these pump sprayers online.
Let’s make some Homemade Weed Killer Safe for Pets!
Supplies Needed:
Pump Sprayer (Walmart / Amazon)
48oz White Distilled Vinegar
2 tsp. Liquid Dish Soap (Glass Oil Bottle Dispenser)
2/3 c. Lemon Juice
Funnel (love this funnel, it collapses flat)
Water
Instructions to make:
How to use:
Make sure to apply on a sunny and low wind day. You don’t want any overspray going onto any plants you don’t want to kill. This will kill any plant it comes into contact with or damage it. Spray before the sun is at its hottest, the sun will help in burning the weed with the mixture on it. Leave it alone for a couple days and you should come back to a dying weed. You can reapply if needed for those hard to kill weeds. Our nightmare weed is crab grass and it takes two treatments sometimes. But, once that patch is dead it is gone for good. We like to use leather palm garden gloves to pull weeds in case they have thorns.
As always, we love hearing from you and your experience with how our Homemade Weed Killer Safe for Pets worked for you! If you have cats or dogs you also need to check out the Pet Friendly Curtains we use throughout our home. These curtains have been a game changer in not capturing all the pet hair. Head over to our social channels anytime where you can find videos of us making all kinds of things for our home!
