It takes the same amount of time to make as homemade spaghetti!

Rigatoni, those fun tube-shaped noodles, paired with our homemade creamy sausage sauce, will surely rock your taste buds like never before. And the best part? It’s easier to make than you might think!

Rigatoni is so easy to make and delicious! I feel like I have had a few Rigatonis over the years but none ever rocked my socks. So, I decided to try my hand at making a homemade Rigatoni Recipe for our home.

You can make this recipe spicy or not and it tastes amazing either way!

I may have added a very random ingredient you will never see coming 🫣

This is one of those dishes that seem really hard to make. But, really, it’s just like making spaghetti. Oh, and it reheats really well for leftovers! Who doesn’t love leftovers?

Homemade Rigatoni Ingredients:

  • 10-12 oz Rigatoni
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1-2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Half a yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 1lb of ground sausage (spicy Italian for an extra kick)
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of black pepper
  • ½ cup dry white wine
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons of Italian dressing
  • 1 tablespoon of Grey Poupon
  • ¼ cup half and half
  • Parmesan and Basil for topping

You should be able to find all of these items at your local grocery store and a lot of the ingredients you may already have in your home. The Grey Poupon is so random in this recipe, but it really does just add that bit of tanginess that brings it all together!

How to make Homemade Rigatoni:

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Heat butter in a skillet over medium high heat. Add Garlic, Onion and Celery to pan and saute until veggies are soft.
  2. Add ground sausage, oregano, salt and crushed red pepper (optional). Once the sausage is fully cooked add wine and let it cook for a few minutes for most liquid to evaporate.
  3. Add tomatoes, Grey Poupon and Italian dressing and let simmer for 15 minutes for the sauce to reduce some.
  4. Add cream and stir well until combined.
  5. Cook the paste according to its package instructions in a separate pot. Take 1/4 cup of the pasta water and put it into your sauce mixture and combine well.
  6. Add pasta to the sauce and stir gently to combine. Should be saucy but not runny.
  7. Transfer to a large serving dish.
  8. Top with Parmesan, Parsley and Basil

A warm homemade meal ready to eat!

You will most likely have leftovers from this recipe, it makes a lot of food! This meal reheats really well for the next day’s lunch or dinner!

Homemade Rigatoni Reheating Instructions:

  • Microwave: Heat in a microwave-safe dish for 1-2 minutes, stir, then heat for another minute.
  • Oven: Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes covered with foil.

So, don’t keep this recipe to yourself! Share it with everyone you know and spread the joy of homemade cooking. And for an extra special touch, pair it with your favorite red wine to elevate the dining experience.

PRO TIP: Take a 1/4 cup of pasta water and mix into your sauce before mixing with your Rigatoni noodles. The starchy pasta sauce helps your sauce cling to the pasta better. I always do this no matter what kind of pasta dish we are making.
