If I add to pick one skill to perfect, it would be Safety hands down. Before diving into any DIY project, it’s crucial you prioritize safety. Learning to use and maintain your tools properly shouldn’t be rushed. Take your time getting to learn the ins and outs of all your tools. I am such a worry wart and have a healthy respect for my tools. I understand the damage they can do and take my time when using them.
Invest in safety gear like goggles and ear protection to protect yourself during the creative process. Tools are very dangerous to our ears and most people don’t even think of this when safety comes to mind. Protect the ears, they deserve some love too.
Every DIY project comes with its unique challenges. I don’t think I can name a single project we have done that didn’t need pivoting and problem solving of some kind. Develop problem-solving skills by approaching obstacles with an open mindset.
Learning from our mistakes over the years is how we’ve been able to grow so much in our skills. Be ok knowing you will make mistakes, pivot when needed and keep moving forward in your project until it is complete. Don’t ever give up. “When there is a will, there is a way” my grams used to always tell me this.
Hands down my most used tool, you won’t regret getting a Drill! A versatile tool for drilling holes and driving screws, a cordless drill is a DIY essential. Look for one with adjustable speed settings and a variety of drill bits for different materials. You will probably buy one and then a second soon after. At least that is what I did to make DIY projects run smoother.
My second most used tool in my workshop. Perfect for cutting straight and angle lines through various materials, a miter saw is a must for any aspiring DIY enthusiast. Practice proper safety precautions and enjoy the precision this tool offers.
You can create some amazing accent walls in your home with this tool. All of your Pinterest wall dreams can come true with this tool. It is also a must have tool for any cabinet finishing and trim work projects you have. The precision cuts this tool makes will help you in achieving a professionally finished look!
My Third most used tool in my arsenal. This tool is to help you tackle all of those walls you’ve been dreaming of for years. Nail up accent pieces of wood to create a stunning accent wall or trim out the drop zone area of your dreams. A nail gun will make you feel like you have leveled up in DIY. I can’t praise this tool enough for how easy it is to use as a beginner.
Paint brushes can be the difference between a novice and professional look. Achieve professional-looking results with a high-quality paintbrush set and do not go for the cheap ones. From intricate details to broad strokes, having the right brushes makes a significant difference in your painting projects outcome.
It is worth investing in this Brush set that you can use for many years to come. Cleaning your brushes thoroughly right after each project will ensure they last for a long time. This is one of the parts of DIY where you can’t go cheap or it will show and you will regret it.
Accurate measurements are non-negotiable in DIY. Invest in a durable tape measure and laser measure with both imperial and metric units, ensuring you can tackle projects with precision. These measuring tools will be exactly what you need to get started and be precise.
Prioritize your well-being with a comprehensive safety mindset and gear kit. This should include safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, a dust mask, no loose clothing and making sure you aren’t tired or distracted.
